The return...

The sports world has given us some incredible comebacks over the years, creating memories that inspire us and fuel our passion for the sports we watch so faithfully and diligently. Mario Lemieux. Michael Jordan. Mario Lemieux. And now...

See this redhorse sucker? You're not good enough.
...TVK1 returns.

Managing Director Bob Stinner has been in talks with one of West Mifflin Football Club's all time greats about his return to the Blues. The disgusting ankle injury he sustained in 2009 has healed and he has managed to kick his dry-wall dust addiction (he does straight saw-dust now), leaving Klein fully prepared for his 2011 return. However, there have been questions popping up in the Blues camp that are related directly to this once-blazingly-fast-but-now-not-so-much striker's return. The most important question is who is now the biggest plonker on WMFC, Baguet or Klein?

Baguet

Klein

It's unclear where Klein will fit into the West Mifflin squad but it is certain he will be used. Some speculate he could be slotted right into the starting XI. Others have more muted expectations and believe that the manager will ease him back. That may prove difficult, however, with the Blues losing several big names this off-season including talisman Steve Gauss, ball-retrieving stopper Dalibor Bradaric and influential playmaker and freshman-girl-body-checker Jon Renner. Also departing are Etan Pasternak who has returned to the motherland to play professionally, Drew Hruska who either finally created a Steel Valley team or got a full-time, guaranteed gig at the Improv, and Nick Cyr who, well, no one knows.

Evidence
Something that will be evident from the gun is Klein's versatility. Although slightly larger and more rotund than his prime years of 1995-2004, Klein has been known to fill in at any position when necessary. Every Blues fan recalls the massive performance he put in when WMFC won the PA West title in 2001. He played sweeper like a man possessed: diving in front of shots, getting to crosses and steering them out with that oddly shaped cranium, and beating strikers to through balls towards the corner with his blistering speed. He could also use his speed to run onto through balls instead of intercepting. There are countless examples of Klein slyly cutting across the back line and latching onto a perfectly placed pass and guiding the ball into the net.

Of course you would be hard pressed to find an example of his speed now. Age, work schedule (he's a Union man now), semi-married life, and home ownership have conspired to make him just a tad slower. But that hasn't dampened the Blues faithful's excitement for his return. Says one veteran of the Borland Park Hillside Bench:

I can't wait to see the bloke play. It's gonna be hilarious. God dam unions.
Where Stinner decides to plug him in will be an interesting talking point for pundits until the season kicks off May 8th. The decision depends almost fully on what formation WMFC decide to deploy (more on that in a later post). Will he become a secondary striker? a holding midfielder? a replacement for Bradaric at stopper? All of this remains to be seen, but we are happy to welcome back Thomas Vincent Klein:
